A Floating Entrance Puts An Entrance Anywhere You Want One
Nothing about natural honeybee behavior says that the entrance has to be on the bottom. So to give you (and the bees) more options, the Beecentric hive uses an innovative floating entrance design. A separate component from the rest of the hive, a floating entrance can be placed between any two hive components giving you the versatility to install entrances wherever you want.
Why place the entrance anywhere but to bottom? According to renowned beekeeper Micheal Bush, installing a top-entrance eliminates “mice, skunks…dead bees blocking the exit in winter, condensation on the lid in winter, snow blocking the exit in winter, [and] grass blocking the exit the rest of the year.”
Each entrance creates a 3/8 wide opening and comes complete with an entrance reducer (two sizes per hive). An opening of 3/8 of an inch bee-space is easier to defend from robbing.
